Opportunity

There are many empty and decaying buildings in Denmark. They are often found on the outskirts, in old industrial neighbourhoods or in the forgotten parts of the city. These areas can easily disappear from the map and fall into disuse, while waiting to be revitalised or demolished. These areas and their unique buildings do, however, have great potential and it must and should be triggered! Fortunately, there are already many places to be inspired by:

Prags Boulevard 43

Givrum.nu has made a 6400m2 area with 4 empty buildings available for a period of 2-3 years. The buildings have been empty for 5 years, but less than half a year after the temporary lease was signed all spaces have been taken over by more than 100 people.

The Urban Supermarket

At the moment we are working on ideas for a former supermarket and an old social administration in the Urban-Plan in Amager Supermarked. The re-use is not yet official, although the space has been used by a theatre group for rehearsals and shows. We have several contacts lined up in case the temporary use continues.
Bolsjefabrikken – “The candy factory” in Northwestern Copenhagen
After 5 years, Bolsjefabrikken is now associated with good and inspiring projects with a strong attachment to the local identity. Bolsjefabrikken has among other things been used for local citizens’ meetings and open cultural activities with a broad artistic spectrum, covering all genres. Its events are inspired by innovative artists and new tendencies within Do-It-Together projects, green constructions, soundart, theatre and electronic music.

The cultural venue Under Vand

The now closed cultural venue Under Vand in Ørestad was located in an over- dimensioned bike storage basement, where no one liked to park their bike. In 2008 it instead started to be used for cultural activities. Under Vand managed, in spite of the challenging location far away from the city’s pulsing life, to engage a whole new area in Copenhagen with cultural offers for the community, such as: local citizens’ meetings, youth clubs and flee markets. Under Vand also attracted a lot of people that weren’t planning to set foot in Ørestad by organising clubbing nights and concerts. See more here.
